Bad - his first studio album since 1982 s enormous Thriller - was released on the Epic label on 31st August, and was met with widespread critical acclaim. With famed producer Quincy Jones at the helm again, the album s blunt discussion of social issues and harder musical edge clearly hit a chord with the listening public, as the sales figures clearly demonstrated. It broke numerous records; it was the first album to produce five chart-topping singles, and has since gone nine times Platinum. Bad also reached number one in 13 different countries, and would be nominated for six Grammy awards, going on to win in the Best Engineered Record - Non Classical, and Best Music Video - Short Form categories. The album left a substantial mark on music history, and has been included on both VH1 and Rolling Stone s Greatest Albums of All Time lists. To support the album, Jackson embarked on the legendary Bad World Tour, playing 123 shows between 12th September 1987 and 27th January 1989. The tour was a Guinness World Record breaker in itself, being the highest grossing tour in history at $125.8 million ($240.15 million by today s standards), as well as boasting the largest attending audience at 4.4 million people in total. The tour began in Japan, with the first nine shows selling out within hours and five more having to be added due to the huge demand. The show included on this double disc set was taken from the Yokohama Stadium on 27th September - the ninth performance of the tour.
